Teaching Assistants:
Teaching Assistantships are available for second year graduate students who have not found a research supervisor. If the department has sufficient block grant funds, the studentÕs registration fees are covered. If it is a foreign student, non-resident tuition is covered.
Graduate Student Researchers:
After completing their first year in the graduate program, students usually affiliate with a research group and receive support as a Graduate Student Researcher.
The department has a small number of fellowships available for outstanding students. Other entering graduate students in physics are supported as teaching assistants during their first year. Thereafter students usually affiliate with a research group and receive support as research assistants. Opportunities for summer employment with departmental research groups are available for well-qualified students. All graduate student salaries, wages, and most fellowships are subject to federal and state income taxes.
