The department has a small number of fellowships available for outstanding students. Other entering graduate students in physics are supported as teaching assistants during their first year. Thereafter students usually affiliate with a research group and receive support as research assistants. Opportunities for summer employment with departmental research groups are available for well-qualified students. All graduate student salaries, wages, and most fellowships are subject to federal and state income taxes.
STUDENT HEALTH SERVICES
The Student Health Center on campus is staffed with medical personnel who are available to discuss any health problem. Minor illnesses and injuries can usually be treated at this facility at no charge to students. As part of the required university registration fee, students are provided with a comprehensive major medical health insurance policy during the academic year. These services are also available during the summer for a one-time minimal fee.

The Department of Housing and Dining Services operates several housing complexes in an effort to provide the highest level of flexibility when selecting your residence. The housing complexes you may choose are: La Jolla Del Sol, Warren Single Graduate Apartments, or Residential Apartments.
