Photoelectric Effect
A grounded mercury lamp with a removable UV filter
is set up across from a zinc plate. The potential of the zinc plate is measured
with an electroscope that can be viewed by the class through the overhead
projector. When the zinc plate is charged using a charging rod, the light
from the lamp will slowly dissipate the charge on the plate. This process
can be stopped at any time by inserting the UV filter in front of the mercury
lamp.
