Mass On A Spring

  • Principle Illustrated: Centripetal Force and Angular Speed

When spun in a vertical circle, the spring stretches due to the centripetal force supplied by the mass on the end. Increasing the rotational speed causes the centripetal force to increase resulting in a longer spring. The reverse is true for decreases in angular speed.
